SS Caribou 75th Anniversary Today

The North Sydney Historical Society held a memorial service yesterday commemorating the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Carribu today.

136 people died on October 14, 1942 when the passenger ship left North Sydney for Port Aux Basque, NL.

The ship was torpedoed by a German boat patrolling the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

101 people survived the sinking.
