Sod Turning This Afternoon For Glace Bay Youth & Family Centre

A sod turning ceremony is taking place this afternoon for the Glace Bay Youth & Family Centre that’s scheduled to open in 2026 at the corner of Union and Reserve streets.

The New Dawn Enterprises project is getting 8.8 million dollars from the federal government and 6 million dollars from the province.

The Centre is being billed as a vibrant, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable place for families, children, youth, seniors, and community organizations.

The facility will include a creative lab and makerspace, a nursery and indoor playground as well as a community kitchen and café.

It will have accessible/barrier-free spaces and a net-zero carbon design.

The sod turning is scheduled to get underway at 3:30.
