Society Tours St. Alphonsus Interior

The group hoping to buy and restore St. Alphonsus Church in Victoria Mines got a look in inside the building, yesterday evening.

The Stone Church Restoration Society was given permission to view the interior by the Diocese of Antigonish.

The Diocese has slated the building for demolition

The Society’s Melanie Sampson says they wanted to get inside to assess current damage.

She adds there’s water damage to an area around one of the bell towers because of a broken window in the tower.

She says the Society has notified the Diocese that it would like to temporarily repair the open window to prevent further damage.

The Society says a company has come forward to volunteer its services for the work.
