SIRT Clears Regional Police Officers

The province’s police watchdog has cleared Cape Breton Regional Police officers of any wrongdoing after they were accused of stealing and damaging property.

The Serious Incident Response Team says a member of the public accused the officers of stealing money, jewelry, and an all-terrain vehicle during a search of their property.

They also claimed officers damaged two of their vehicles during the same search.

The SIRT says the claims were based on hearsay from two people who the person making the complaint knows.

It says the two would not cooperate with its investigation despite repeated attempts to get them to.

The SIRT says it has no grounds to believe any of the officers involved committed a crime.
