SIRT Clears Regional Police Officer

The province’s police watchdog has cleared a Cape Breton Regional Police officer accused of physical and sexual assault.

The Serious Incident Response Team says it got a report in February from a parent who says two of their children were assaulted by the other parent, who’s the officer that was under investigation.

The other parent says the assaults happened several years ago when the children were between 6 and 12 years old.

The SIRT says the officer denied the claims and passed a lie-detector test.

It says investigators determined life in the officer’s home was turbulent and the officer was prone to angry outbursts, but there wasn’t enough evidence to lay a charge of sexual assault.
