Public Safety Minister Bill Blair made the announcement while responding to a question in Parliament this afternoon.
Ottawa and the province announced the inquiry in July as they faced growing public pressure.
Inquiry commissioners are being told to provide an interim report by May 1st of 2022 and a final report by November 1st of that year.
