Cape Breton Regional Council learned which streets will be on the list for repaving this year at yesterday’s council meeting.
CBRM Senior Engineer Bruce Hardy told Council that the street that was at the top of the list as the “worst first” will not be getting fixed, this year.
Hardy says Reeves Street in Sydney didn’t make the cut because it has fewer than 10, 000 vehicles a day.
He adds work there will have to wait until next year when the province rolls out funding under the small communities fund.
The municipality has put together a list of seven streets that do meet the criteria for funding this year.
They include sections on Welton Street in Sydney; Main Street in Glace Bay; Main Street in Sydney Mines; the street leading to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; South Street in Glace Bay; Commercial Street in North Sydney; and Alexandra Street in Sydney.
The CBRM will now submit those streets to the province for consideration under the Building Canada Fund.
