Service Reductions Continue at Halifax Area Hospitals

The provincial Health Authority says there are continuing service reductions in the Central Zone that includes Halifax because of staffing challenges and high demand on emergency departments.

It says it’s continually reviewing scheduled surgeries in the Central and Northern Zones to make sure cases can go ahead based on the resources available.

The Health Authority says cancer and other time-sensitive surgeries that can’t be delayed will continue but many elective and same-day procedures are on hold for the next several weeks.

It also says it’s expecting longer-than-usual wait times in Emergency Departments into the winter, especially where there’s an increase in COVID-19 cases and admissions.
