Sentencing Today For Soldier At Sydney Court Martial

A sentencing hearing is taking place in Sydney today for a soldier found guilty on a charge of drunkenness in June.

Corporal Kendra Christmas was found not guilty of sexual assault and dishonourable behavior at the same Syndey court martial.

The three charges involved another soldier and date to March of 2019 at the Truro Armouries.

The trial made Canadian history by being the first to incorporate Indigenous practices into a military court martial.

A smudging ceremony took place in the mornings before the court martial began and Christmas swore on an eagle feather when she took the witness stand and held it during much of the trial.
