Sentencing Hearing Today For Teacher Who Pleaded Guilty To Sexually Exploiting Student

A sentencing hearing is due to take place today for a Reserve Mines man who pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting a girl who was his student.

53 year-old Lawrence Robert Summerell also faced counts of sexual assault, child luring and possessing child pornography.

Those charges will be dropped if the Crown and defence approve a sentencing deal.

The Crown says Summerell could get up to three years in prison.

He’s been placed on administrative leave from his teaching job at Memorial High in Sydney Mines and continues his release on conditions.
