Section Of Cabot Trail Re-Opened

The section of the Cabot Trail over North Mountain has re-opened.

The stretch from Big Intervale to Pleasant Bay was closed just before 6:00 yesterday morning because of heavy snowfall and reduced visibility in blowing snow.

It was re-opened this afternoon.

The Transportation Department says the road is still partially snow-covered with icy patches, but is passable with caution.

Parks Canada says it wanted to re-open the road to create a path for emergency vehicles as quickly as possible.

The stretch of road was closed to emergency vehicles only for five days last month.

At the time, snow drifts in the area were about 3.5 metres high.
