Second Charter Consultation Meeting

Roughly 40 people attended the last of two public consultations on a proposed charter for the Regional Municipality at the Civic Centre yesterday.

Gordon Sampson from North Sydney says equalization payments should be addressed in the new Charter, claiming we should get over $230M.

Municipal Affairs Minister Derek Mombourquette said the Department would be ready to move forward if a deal for the Port were to occur.

Mayor Cecil Clarke has been pushing for the charter because he says it will give the municipality more economic freedom.
