Second Booster Doses Opening Up For People 50+

The province says people from ages 50 to 69 will be able to book a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine starting next week.

The province’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Shelley Deeks, notes the government is not recommending a booster dose for those people at this time but it still wants to give them a choice.

Public health recommends getting the second booster in the fall because the ideal timing for a booster dose is closer to an increase in virus activity.

Health officials also say new vaccines that may offer broader protection against the Omicron variant may become available.

Second boosters for people 50-69 will be able to be booked online or by phone starting on July 8th.
