Police investigators are expected to continue to sift through the rubble of the former Billy D’s building in Glace Bay today after Friday’s fire in the abandoned structure.
Police says they have reason to believe a homeless person could have been in the building but add no human remains were found as crews cleared the debris, yesterday.
They go on to say two members of the forensic identification unit are examining and photographing the debris as it’s removed.
Fire crews got the call to the blaze in the Main Street building at around 11:00 on Friday night.
Glace Bay Fire Chief John Chant says low temperatures and snow are hampering the cleanup efforts because close to three metres of water has accumulated in the building’s basement and is freezing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and police are asking anyone with information on the blaze to call them or Crime Stoppers.
