Search And Rescue Exercise In Bras d’Or Lakes, This Morning

There’s going to be a search-and-rescue exercise in the Bras d’Or Lakes near Baddeck this morning.

The federal Department of Fisheries, the Coast Guard and the Air Force are taking part in the exercise along with the We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw auxiliary and the Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department.

The exercise will see Sydney Coast Guard Radio getting a Mayday message from a tour boat at around 10:00.

The boat will report it’s taking on water with all crew and passengers abandoning to the water and life rafts.

The exercise will take place at the east end of St. Patrick’s channel toward Baddeck and is expected to continue until around 2:00, this afternoon.
