by The province announced plans today to replace the Seal Island Bridge within 10 to 15 years.
In the meantime, the structure that opened in 1961 will undergo a multi-year rehabilitation meant to extend its life by as many as 15 years.
A tender for the first of several projects under the plan was issued in November.
Other projects will be tendered next year and in 2025.
Rehabilitation work is expected to be completed by 2027, with inspections and routine maintenance ongoing.
Meanwhile, an analysis that reviewed several options for replacing the bridge will be reviewed by the government as it considers next steps.
