School Cancelled In Advance Of Winter Storm

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board has cancelled classes for all students in advance of today’s snow, rain and wind storm.

Classes are also cancelled today at Etoile de l’Acadie in Sydney.

However, the Marconi campus of the community college and the Wagmatcook Learning Centre are open today.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia Power says it’s ramping up the biggest pre-storm preparation in the company’s history.

The utility says it’s called in crews from as far away as Hydro Quebec and will have1,000 people dedicated to storm response.

However, it’s also warning customers to be prepared for power outages lasting through the weekend, and perhaps into early next week.

All flights to and from the McCurdy Sydney Airport have been cancelled, today.

Marine Atlantic has postponed all today’s crossings until tomorrow morning.

But the Crown Corporation says tomorrow’s departures could also be affected by the weather.
