School Board Expected To Reveal Schools Up For Possible Closure, Tonight

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board is expected to release the list of which schools are up for possible closure at its meeting, this evening.

The meeting gets underway at 6:00 at Sherwood Park Education Centre in Sydney.

Board Chair Lorne Greene says there are schools slated for possible closure in all of its five families of schools.

He adds once the list of possible closures is announced, school options committees will formed in each family of schools.

The committees will work to prepare a report and submit recommendations to the board by mid-February.

The board will then hold public meetings in March and April, with final decisions about school closures expected by late April.

The Board began the process to look at closing and consolidating schools as it continues to face declining enrollment.

It has half the number of students today as it did 20 years ago.
