Scallop Boat Search Called Off

RCMP have called off today’s planned search for the five missing fishermen from the Chief William Saulis scallop boat.

The Digby-based boat went down off Annapolis County early last Tuesday morning with a crew of six onboard.

The body of one crew member was found that night.

The Mounties say their Underwater Recovery Team was planning to use sonar in the search today but they had to turn back because of sea conditions.

They say they’ll do a sonar search in the area when it’s safe.

A Department of Lands and Forestry helicopter was expected to resume the aerial search today but that was cancelled because of low cloud cover.
