The Sydney Santa Claus Parade will go through Whitney Pier, after all.
The move means plans to organize a separate parade for the Pier will be shelved for the second year in a row.
Area business owner Allan Nathanson was organizing the parade for Whitney Pier after he says municipal officials told him the Sydney parade would bypass the neighbourhood.
Nathanson says there’s now no need for a separate parade for Whitney Pier but adds he’s expecting another “battle” next year to keep Whitney Pier a part of the annual tradition.
Meanwhile, officials with the Regional Municipality say the final parade route wasn’t finalized until this week.
They add the original route for the parade has been changed because of a Cape Breton Screaming Eagles hockey game that’s also scheduled for the evening of Nov. 28.
Instead of travelling down Charlotte Street in downtown Sydney, the parade will move south on George Street and turn east on Prince Street.
And, instead of ending on James Street in Whitney Pier it will conclude at Whitney Pier Memorial Middle School on Jamieson Street.
