Runs July 4-8th.
Cadence Grace, Ann Chaplin and Stacey Zegers have had major successes in their own right as solo female artists, but never imagined that together their collective talents would catapult them to an entirely new level as Runaway Angel.
It all began in 2009 when Stacey and Cadence met as solo artists on set during the filming of CMT’s Karaoke Star, where both were finalists and became fast friends. Cadence then met Ann at CCMA Week in 2011 and they clicked instantly. In late 2013, while all three were still navigating solo careers, Stacey had the idea of forming a group. Cadence introduced Stacey to Ann as a promising third member, and together Runaway Angel was born. Their group chemistry is palpable and their onstage energy is unforgettable.
Individually, they have toured Canada, the United States, Europe and Britain, opening for major acts like Dean Brody, Aaron Pritchett, One More Girl, Jessie Farrell, Aaron Lines, Terri Clark, Emerson Drive, and Doc Walker. Since joining forces they’ve been no strangers to festival stages opening for acts like Jason Blaine, Dallas Smith, Jess Moskaluke, Dierks Bentley and Tim Hicks.
All strong writers, their solo music has been featured on the likes of CMT, Disney, Much Music and Much More Music, as well as shows like Degrassi High, Dawson’s Creek, Joan of Arcadia, Naturally Sadie and MTV’s The Hills. Together the girls make a dynamic writing force, performing all original material written or co-written by the girls with some of Nashville and Canada’s finest writers. They also write regularly with other artists- fellow Canadian Myria Webber’s debut single ‘Move Kiss’ was co-written by Grace.
Their debut single ‘Our Story’ released in January 2014 landed them as Regional Finalists in the 2014 CBC Searchlight Contest, and snagged them a spot in Boots and Hearts 2014 Emerging Artist Showcase. Their Live Video entry won them the chance to play at Lucknow’s Music in the Fields that summer and the girls were invited to participate in the CCMA 2014 Coast to Coast showcase series at West Edmonton Mall.
Their second single ‘Run Angel Run’ was released to radio and digital retailers in March 0f 2015 and continued to grow the buzz the group has been touting since their inception. The accompanying Music Video shot by David Pichette in Nashville chronicles the girl’s journey to showcase new material for industry down south all with the usual playfulness the girls have managed to lace their brand with.
This spring Stacey, Ann and Cadence were beyond excited to receive four nominations for the Ontario Country Music Awards including Rising Star, Group or duo of the year, Songwriter(s) of the year and Single of the year for their debut single ‘Our Story.’ They also received Funding support from both FACTOR and The Ontario Arts Council for upcoming projects the girls are working on.
Just two years into this collaboration, the girls were recently highlighted as one of 6 of Ontario’s Hot Country Acts to Watch by the Toronto Star, alongside major label acts like Tim Hicks and Tebey.
Using their love of social media, exuberant personalities and creative youtube content, Runaway Angel has slowly cultivated a huge and dedicated fan base long before the release of their debut EP. Co-produced by Jason Barry and Adam Newcomb, the EP was released in early 2016 and features plenty of exciting originals the band is dying to share.
Their upcoming single ‘June’ hit radio on April 14th, 2016 and followed by their debut album released on April 22nd. The girls started on a Cross-Canada Promotional Radio and Press tour last month.
With a perfect mixture of powerhouse vocals, poignant harmonies and infectious melodies, Runaway Angel is setting the stage for a breakout year. Their distinct flavour of friendship and fun, filled with their arsenal of experience and talent is sure to leave you wanting more.
