Rudderham Donates A Million Bucks To YMCA

Sydney business-owner Parker Rudderham has made good on a promise to donate a million dollars to the YMCA of Cape Breton, two years early.

Rudderham made the announcement at the Frank Rudderham Family YMCA in Sydney, yesterday.

The million dollars was originally scheduled to be paid in 2017, but Rudderham says he was able to make the donation early because his pharmaceutical company is doing well in the wake of the 2008 economic downturn.

He’s now donated a total of 1.41 million dollars to the Y.

Rudderham credits late Sydney business owner Hugh Tweedie for first contacting him and asking him to donate to the YMCA.

The YMCA of Cape Breton provides health, fitness and child care services as well as education and training and employment programs at facilities in Sydney, Glace Bay, Port Hawkesbury and Membertou.
