Richmond County Man Facing Sex Charges

A Richmond County man has been charged with a number of sex offences in Sydney River and Port Hawkesbury and RCMP say there may be other cases.

49 year-old James Darren Peters from Lower l’Ardoise was arrested on Tuesday on two counts of enticing a child from a parent as well as single counts of sexual assault, sexual interference, assault, and unlawful confinement.

The charges were laid after a 9 year-old boy was approached in a washroom in Port Hawkesbury on August 23rd.

Police say there’s a similar case dating back to August 19th in Sydney River and they’re asking people to come forward if they know of any other cases.

They say Peters held a position that gave him access to young people.

Peters appeared in court yesterday and has been released on strict conditions.
