Report Finds Hourly Living Wage Up 14 Percent In Cape Breton

The Nova Scotia chapter of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the hourly living wage in Cape Breton has increased by 14 percent in the last year.

It’s latest report finds the living wage on the Island for two adults working full-time to support two children is $22.85 cents an hour.

That’s up from 20 dollars an hour last year.

The Centre says the year-over-year increases across the province are the most significant it’s seen since it began calculating the living wage for Halifax in 2015.

It says they’re fueled by overall increases to the costs of living, for shelter and food, in particular.
