Report Calls For Legislated Paid Sick Leave

A report released today is calling on the province to legislate 10 paid sick days a year for all workers.

The study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives in Nova Scotia finds only 46% of workers in the province had paid sick leave before the COVID-19 pandemic.

It also finds 88% of workers without paid sick leave reported going to work when sick because they needed the money.

The province’s COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave program that offers up to four days of paid sick leave is due to end on Saturday.

The report’s authors say paid sick leave must be universal, paid, adequate, permanent, accessible and employer-provided.
