Regional Police Seek Slight Budget Increase

Regional Police are looking for a small increase in the upcoming budget year.

Acting Chief Robert Walsh spoke at Regional Council’s budget workshop this afternoon, giving details on a draft budget for 2021-22 that totals about $26.9 million.

Walsh says the small increase is a result of wages, salaries and benefits in negotiated contracts.

He also says the COVID-19 pandemic has added to the pressures the force is dealing with.

Today’s meeting was the second of three days of budget workshops.

The workshops are scheduled to resume at 9:30 tomorrow morning.
