Regional Police Officer Investigated For Domestic Violence

The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate after an off-duty Cape Breton Regional Police officer has been accused of domestic violence.

The Serious Incident Response Team or SiRT says it’s looking into two suspected cases of domestic violence between the male officer and his girlfriend.

The SIRT says police got called to a disturbance at the Dominion Fire at around 12:30, yesterday morning.

They add after the officer was removed from that incident but police later got information that he had assaulted his girlfriend while at the Fire Hall.

Then, at around 2:00 in the morning police add they got information about a second assault involving the officer and the same woman on the street near Fat Boy’s Pizza in Dominion.

The off-duty officer has since been arrested and placed in custody.

The SIRT is asking any witnesses to either incident to come forward.
