The Cape Breton Regional Police Service is looking for a 700-thousand dollar budget increase in the next fiscal year.
Police Chief Peter MacIsaac says 581-thousand of that is for a 2.5 percent negotiated wage increase for police officers, jailers, crossing guards as well as records and dispatch staff.
81-thousand dollars will go toward the new digital emergency radio system.
An increase of about $43,000 is for federal crime lab costs.
MacIsaac also told yesterday’s Police Commission meeting that renovations to Police Headquarters on Grand Lake Road are expected to be finished in two weeks.
He adds work has also begun to turn the former post office in Sydney Mines into the new police headquarters for north division.
MacIsaac goes on to say that project is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer.
