Regional Police Looking For $2.6 Million Budget Increase

Police Chief Robert Walsh is looking for a 2.6 million dollar increase in the Regional Police budget for 2023-24.

Walsh requested a budget of 30.5 million dollars at this morning’s meeting of the Police Commission.

He says wages and benefits accounts for much of the increase at 2.4 million dollars.

The increased budget request by Walsh comes with Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Campbell revealing Council is going into budget talks next week without a balanced budget, for the first time.

Campbell says Council will have to find ways to make up for a 4.2 million dollar shortfall.
