Regional ER Still Has Staff Shortages

The Nova Scotia Health Authority will continue to reassign staff to the emergency room at the Regional Hospital in Sydney due to a shortage of ER nurses until the new year.

Health authority spokesperson Greg Boone says the emergency room is short 10 nurses.

Boone adds nurses have been reassigned from the Northside, Glace Bay and New Waterford hospitals since June to cover ER shifts.

Boone also says the ER at the Regional needs to stay open 24/7 and there are another five ER vacancies in the community

Recruitment to fill the voids is ongoing.
