RCMP Warning Of Gift Card Scam

RCMP are warning people about scams involving gift cards after officers were alerted by a business in Victoria County.

They say a person bought gift cards at the business in June after scammers told them they had to buy the cards in order to help family members in another country.

The person was defrauded before police or the business could intervene.

Police are not identifying the business or what community it’s in.

They say the business learned of a customer in a similar situation late last month and that fraud was stopped.

RCMP say any request for payment in gift cards is likely a scam.

Anyone targeted by a scam is being asked to call police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
