Rankin Announces Provincewide Shutdown

Premier Iain Rankin has announced a two-week provincewide shutdown after another record daily number of COVID-19 cases today.

The new restrictions take effect across the province at 8:00 tomorrow morning.

They include a five-person gathering limit, closing down all public and private schools, and the closing down of retail stores to in-person service unless they provide essential service.

Restaurants are limited to take-out and delivery.

Childcare centres will stay open, but masking is required for all staff and for children over two unless they’re eating or drinking.

Doctors and dentists’ offices, pharmacies and grocery stores can open at 25 percent capacity.

People are also being told to stay within their municipality unless they have to go elsewhere for essential reasons.

The Regional Municipality says City Hall and other municipal buildings will be closed until further notice.
