The province says it’s going to cover a planned price increase in the School Milk Program to make sure milk is affordable when students go back to class in September.
The price of school milk is set by a sector-led board called the Natural Products Marketing Council that was planning a price increase for September 1st.
The cost of a 250-millilitre carton of milk at school will now stay at 40 cents.
The government estimates it will cost about $72,000 to cover the increase.
The full cost of the program has ranged between $130,000 and $230,000 per school year, with lower costs last year and the year before as a result of closures because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
