Province To Ban Protests At Hospitals, Other Healthcare Facilities

The province says it’s going to ban protests at hospitals and other places offering health services.

The Protecting Access to Health Services Act was tabled in the House this afternoon.

The province says the bill will strike a balance between the rights to protest and free expression, the right of patients to access healthcare and the need to keep healthcare workers safe.

The bill will set up a 50-metre safe-access bubble zone around hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices and pharmacies, as well as places offering mental-health, home-care and long-term care services.

The province says peaceful protests will be allowed outside the zone.
