Province Tightens Borders As New COVID Cases Rise

The province is tightening up travel restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Premier Iain Rankin made the announcement this afternoon.

Starting at 8:00 Thursday morning, people from outside this province, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador will not be allowed into Nova Scotia unless it’s for essential travel or they’re permanent residents.

The new rules will be in effect for at least four weeks.

There are a number of exceptions to the rules, including for people whose main job is outside the province.

Health officials are encouraging most other people in the province not to travel elsewhere if they don’t have to.
