by The province is renewing its COVID-19 State of Emergency as it reports two new cases of the virus today, including one case in the Eastern Zone.
Health officials say that case is related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada and the person is self-isolating as required.
The other case is in the Central Zone and is a close contact of a previously reported case.
There’s now a total of 15 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia.
Meanwhile, the province says it’s setting up COVID-19 testing at the Marine Atlantic Ferry Terminal in North Sydney starting on Sunday.
The testing will be mandatory for truckers and other people who’ve been exempt from some public health requirements and similar testing will soon be set up at other entry points into the province.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says they’re still working out the details on testing at other locations but the testing at Marine Atlantic is needed sooner because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The province also announced today the first vaccine clinic for people 80 and over will open at the IWK Hospital in Halifax on Monday.
Other such clinics will start opening next month.
The one in Sydney is scheduled to start on March 8th.
