Province Reports COVID-19 Death, 12 Hospitalizations, 837 Cases

The province is reporting another COVID-19 death and 12 new hospitalizations today.

Health officials say the person who died was a woman in her 60’s in the Western Zone.

There are now 60 people in the province in hospital who’ve been admitted because of COVID-19, up from 58 yesterday.

Five of those people are in intensive care.

The province is also reporting 837 new cases of COVID-19 today.

500 of those cases are in the Central Zone, with 109 in the Eastern Zone, 106 in the Northern Zone and 122 in the Western Zone.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang told reporters this afternoon the province has a limited supply of rapid tests, and he’s asking people to do a self-assessment online before they try to get a test.

Strang says the province now has about a million rapid tests and there’s another three million on the way.

Premier Tim Houston says 25,000 tests will be distributed to 400 schools based on enrollment.

Houston also confirmed today ventilation systems have arrived for 71 schools in the province.

He says those systems will be installed when students go back to school on Monday and teachers and students will be getting three-layer masks.
