Province Reports 5 New COVID Cases, 5 More Variants

The province is reporting five new cases of COVID-19 today.

Three of the cases are in the Central Zone and the other two are in the Western Zone.

They’re all close contacts of previously reported cases.

There are now 26 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

One of the cases is in the Cape Breton County Community Health Network and another is in the Inverness, Victoria and Richmond Community Health Network.

Meanwhile, the National Microbiology Lab has confirmed five more variant cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Three of the cases are the UK variant and two are the South African variant.

All the variant cases are in the Central Zone.

All three UK variant cases and one of the South African variant cases are directly linked to known cases or international travel.

The other South African variant case has no known link to a previously reported variant case or to travel.

The province says the investigation into that case is still ongoing and so far none of their close contacts have tested positive.
