Provincewide COVID-19 restrictions are being extended as health officials report three more deaths and 16 more hospital admissions because of the virus.
The restrictions were originally set to run to the end of this month but they’ve been extended to February 14th.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says it looks like the province has reached its peak of infections but he adds the peak in hospitalizations tends to come later and there’s still a need for caution and restrictions to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.
Health officials say a man in his 90’s in the Eastern Zone is among the latest people in the province who died from COVID, along with a woman and a man, both in their 80’s, in the Central Zone.
There are now 91 people in the province in hospital after being admitted because of COVID-19, including 15 people in intensive care.
The province is also reporting 346 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, including 164 in the Central Zone, 56 in the Eastern Zone, 35 in the Northern Zone, and 91 in the Western Zone.
