Province Releases Highway Plan

The province and Ottawa are planning to spend a total of nearly half a billion dollars on highways, bridges and roads in the coming fiscal year.

The province’s highway plan will see the building of 12 new bridges and the replacement of 18 in 2022-23 and the Tory government is following up on a campaign pledge to double the budget for rural and gravel roads.

Public Works Minister Kim Masland says climate change is now an important consideration when drawing up the highway plan.

Ten major construction projects planned for the year include continued work to convert the Port Hastings rotary into a roundabout.

Other Cape Breton work includes the turning lane at the intersection of Tobin Road and the 105 Trans Canada Highway and continued work on King’s Road to Weidner Drive.

The 105 North Sydney overpass and continued work on the Seal Island Bridge are also on the list.
