Province Releases Doctor Recruitment Numbers

The province says 23 new doctors have come to Nova Scotia since March of last year.

Of those, six are working in the Eastern Zone that includes Cape Breton.

The province says another 29 doctors are expected to arrive over the next year.

It says officials attended a number of virtual recruitment events last year to try to attract doctors to the province and those efforts will continue this year.

The province’s recruitment efforts are part of a larger effort to deal with wait times for surgeries and the wait list for a family doctor.

Of those doctors who came to the province over the last year, 10 are family doctors and 13 are specialists.

Another 16 family doctors and 13 specialists are expected to arrive in the next 12 months.
