The province is going to reimburse doctors for their pension contributions in what it says is its ongoing efforts to expand recruitment and retention initiatives.
How much doctors will be reimbursed for money they put into their retirement savings will be based on their years of service, their full- or part-time status, and the amount they contribute to their retirement savings plan.
Doctors with five or fewer years of service as of December 31st will get a $5,000 annual contribution from the province.
That goes up to up to $10,000 a year for doctors with five to 15 years of service.
Doctors who’ve worked in Nova Scotia more than 15 years will get up to $15,000 annually.
About 3,000 doctors across the province are eligible this year for the new retirement program.
