Province Preparing To Enter Phase Five Of Reopening Plan

The province is planning to move into Phase 5 of its COVID-19 reopening plan a week from today.

That means masking will no longer be required and gathering and distancing limits will be lifted.

However, the province is bringing in a proof of vaccination policy starting on October 4th requiring people to have proof they’re fully vaccinated before taking part in non-essential activities.

Activities covered under the policy include dining out or going to a gym, movie, theatre performance, concert or sporting event.

Exceptions will be made for some medical conditions.

The province is still aiming to have 75% of all eligible people vaccinated by the start of Phase 5, and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says he’s confident that goal will be reached by Wednesday of next week.

However, he says mandatory masking could be brought back in some places if there are any severe outbreaks of COVID-19.
