Province Prepared To Borrow $1B+ For Long-Term Care Projects

The province says it’s borrowing up to $1.8 billion in the coming years to make sure funding is available for long-term care facilities.

It says it’s aiming to build or renovate 27 long-term care facilities across the province and build 500 rooms in the Halifax area.

The projects are at various stages of development and the first facilities are expected to open next year.

Today’s announcement comes as the province tries to address a waitlist for long-term care that includes some people waiting in hospital.

As of April 20th, there were over 1,900 people on the long-term care waitlist, including 283 waiting in hospital.
