Province, Ottawa Finalize Restart Agreement

The province and Ottawa have finalized a funding agreement to help re-open the economy while dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The province is getting $289 million out of the $19 billion set aside nationally.

The Premier’s Office says it’ll be getting money over the next few weeks to spend in a number of areas, including $77 million for testing, contact tracing, border control and data management upgrades, as well as a total of $67.5 million for municipalities, along with $18 million to prepare for the second wave of the pandemic and about $13 million for mental health and addictions services.

Ottawa is also spending $1.1 billion nationwide to fund and run a COVID-related sick leave program for people who don’t have sick leave coverage.
