Province Holding Industrial Inquiry Into Chronicle Herald Dispute

The provincial government says it’s going to hold an Industrial Inquiry Commission into the 18-month Chronicle Herald strike.

It adds the Commission process will begin in August with mediation between the both sides.

Experienced mediator and arbitrator William Kaplan who was most recently appointed to mediate the Canada Post dispute, will lead the Commission.

The province says if a voluntary agreement is not reached, Commissioner Kaplan will investigate the causes of the dispute and report his findings and potential recommendations to the provincial Minister of Labour.

53 workers at the newspaper, including two in Sydney, have been on the picket line since January of last year.
