Province Expanding Autism Services

The province is introducing a new care model for pre-school age children on the autism spectrum.

It says the new services include the creation of autism spectrum disorder intervention teams and a central waitlist for diagnosis.

There will also be an intensive 12-month intervention program for children identified with the greatest social communication and behaviour needs.

And access to the QuickStart early intervention program is being expanded from the Halifax Regional Municipality to the entire province.

The province says $12 million has been set aside to cover the new services.
