Province Covering Cystic Fibrosis Drug

The province is covering the full cost of the cystic fibrosis drug Trikafta starting today.

The move comes after Health Minister Michelle Thompson announced last month she expected the drug to be on the provincial formulary by the end of November.

The government says Trikafta is used to treat the most common form of the disease, seen in about 90 per cent of patients.

It costs about $300,000 a year for each patient.

The province’s decision to cover the cost affects more than 180 patients in the province.
