Province Announces Plan To Improve Cellular Service

The province says people in areas with no cellular service will have better connectivity thanks to a plan to enhance existing infrastructure and add more towers over the next two years.

Rogers Communications has been selected after a request for proposals to upgrade infrastructure at 27 existing sites and connect them to its 5G network.

The government says it plans to spend $18.6 million through the Cellular for Nova Scotia Program to add 27 new provincially owned telecommunication towers in unserved areas.

It says there are about 20,000 unserved civic addresses and 1,000 kilometres of unserved primary roads in the province.

The province says the Cellular for Nova Scotia Program is expected to connect more than 62 per cent of unserved civic addresses and 56 per cent of unserved primary roads.
