Province Announces Plan Meant To Speed Up Halifax Infirmary Redevelopment Project

The province has announced changes to the Halifax Infirmary redevelopment plan it says will speed up the process that’s been delayed by projected cost over-runs.

The government says it’s in the final stages of concluding an agreement with the last remaining bidder on the project, Plenary PCL Health.

It says the deal with see the company build a new patient tower with four additional operating rooms and a new emergency department.

It says a new cancer care centre will also be built at the infirmary site.

The province also says it plans to move patients out of distressed areas of the Victoria General site before the new patient tower is finished.

It says lab services will be relocated from the MacKenzie Building, as well.
